The advent of covid 19 has exacerbated the food and nutrition crisis that has been growing steadily since the 1980s in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The province of Tshopo is classified, for the most part, in the crisis or emergency phase of the integrated food security classification framework in 2022.
The pillars of food and nutritional security have been undermined by a multifaceted crisis whose resolution requires a series of interventions accompanied by a public policy supported by the Congolese State and its partners within the framework of the implementation of the methodological guide for provincial and local planning. In the province of Tshopo, the food and nutritional situation has deteriorated considerably over the past three years. To present this situation, this reflection resorts to the descriptive method.
Overall, it is observed that 2,130,982 people or 76% of the population are in a situation of global food insecurity and between 10 and 20% of children aged 6 to 59 months suffer from moderate or severe acute malnutrition. In addition, access to drinking water, health services, sanitized hygiene facilities and appropriate food information remains largely low.
