Abstract

Blood is an indispensable vital substance in the functioning of the human body, which is neither manufactured nor composed. Blood donation is the only way necessary to cover the needs of the sick to stay alive. National blood reserves cover only four to five days (7 days recommended by the WHO). This situation is more alarming especially in this period marked by the Covid-19 pandemic; blood transfusion centers currently have only enough bloodstock for two days. Through this article, we seek to provide the elements of response to the problem: How do the Blood Transfusion and Hematology Centers plan to overcome the shortage of blood products from which Morocco suffers? This article aims to shed light primarily on blood donation statistics and LBP needs in Morocco, as well as the various difficulties and obstacles facing the blood donation, and strategies of the enrollment centers to face this situation and get out of it. To reach this goal, we opted for a bibliographic research on the various data presented previously on the subject as we are based on face-to-face interviews with the heads of blood transfusion centers in our country.
